We held a "Medical Interpreter Training Seminar" on Nov. 21st, 2020, at Eastpia Miyako.
The seminar was aimed at cultivating personnel in charge of medical interpreting in case that foreign tourists and residents need to visit a medical institution. We made use of the regional internationalization promotion advisor dispatch program of CLAIR (Council of Local Authorities for International Relations).
Mr. Akio Nishimura, lecturer, taught us the outline and ethics of medical interpreting, and knowledge on body tissue and illnesses. Ms. Yayoi Iwamoto, lecturer and professional medical interpreter, taught us self-training methods to improve interpretation skills. The opinion from the participants was very good: some said that they would like to join a similar seminar again.
