Diamond Princess, a cruise ship of an American cruise company Princess Cruises, made a port call at Miyako on Apr. 25, 2019. We recruited staff interpreters and volunteers and allocated them.
Diamond Princess is a large cruise ship of over 100,000 GT, and the total number of passengers and crew members is about 4,000. It was the first port call made by a ship of over 100,000 GT in Iwate Prefecture. In order to deal with a lot of International guests, besides staff interpreters and volunteers living in Miyako, a lot of interpreters gathered in Miyako from all over Iwate Prefecture. Furthermore, many junior high school and high school students in the city and college students from inside and outside the city played an active role as volunteers.
