We held an event "Japanese Speech Contest" at Eastpia Miyako on March 3, 2019.
This event was held with the aim of creating an opportunity for international residents to present their achievements in their learning of Japanese language, and of enhancing their motivation for it. In total 9 people participated in the contest: 4 people from America teaching English at elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools in Miyako City, 4 people from Indonesia living in Toyomane, Yamada Town, as technical intern trainees, and a person from China studying at Morioka University as exchange student.
It was Toni-san from Indonesia who won the first prize. During his speech, he talked about his surprise when he knew that tap water was drinkable in Japan, about his passion for "enka" (Japanese traditional style ballad), and after that, sang his favorite song "Sakeyo" enthusiastically. Each of the participants had an original speech; some showed pictures with PowerPoint, sang a song, talked with gestures, etc.
