We held "International Exchange Kids Club" in the creative sudio of Eastpia Miyako on Dec. 1, 2018. 18 children interested in foreign countries and cultures joined the events.
We received a request from a school in Newport News, a port town in Virginia, U.S.A., which wanted to have a cultural exchange with the students in Miyako, and as the first step of the exchange, we decided to hold this event. During the event, the students looked for America and Virginia on a map, and leaned about the city of Newport News. Furthermore, they read the letters and pictures sent from the students in Newport News and prepared replies to them.
A junior high school student wrote a letter in English using a dictionary, while little kids were having fun writing a letter using some English phrases they knew.
