We held "Japanese Traditional Dance Session" on March 18th at Yamaguchi Community Center, in collaboration with Mr. Taiji Nakagawa, team Kizahashi, and Kyokuto Ichibanboshi. About 80 people came to join the event, many of whom were avid fans of team Kizahashi.
Unfortunately, only a few foreign residents, Eduardo from Mexico, Kanjana from Thailand, Sean and Joe from Ireland, took part in the event since many ALTs are leaving Miyako now and new ones are yet to arrive.
In the first half, the members of team Kizahashi performed classical Japanese dance and Kabuki dance. Their performance was beautiful, sophisticated, and at the same time very powerful.
And the audience had their eyes glued to the cute young members of team Kizahashi, who are mainly elementary and junior high school students, wearing gorgeous kimono costumes.
In the latter half, Japanese and foreign participants practiced dancing to "Miyako Aiya-bushi", which has been danced by citizens of Miyako for many years on the occasion of Miyako Autumn Festival. This time, we learned the version choreographed by team Kizahashi.
It turned out to be quite complicated, and the participants struggled with the movements.
But we managed to master the dance in the end.
We thank Mr. Nakagawa and the members of team Kizahashi for teaching us, and those who participated the event.
