Jodogahama Beach, a center of Sanriku Reconstruction (Fukko) National Park, is a scenic spot representing Miyako City.
It was designated a national scenic spot in January 2012. The cave, with its sharp-edged white rhyolites, further accentuated by the contrast with the deep-blue ocean and green pines, shows us various seasonal faces. One theory holds that the name of Jodogahama began when a seventh generation monk of Miyako-san Joanji Temple, Reikyo Ryuko ( - 1727) visited this remote place, and marveling at the beauty, composed a poem saying the beach seemed like a reappearance of Jodo (Pure Land).
